Management entities at local, regional, and national level find difficult to establish decision criteria due to the lack of available information related to the environment conditions and its relationship with economic activities. It is necessary to integrate historical information from data relating to some economic sectors and monitoring results, as well as to obtain current data, to be able to assess changes over time in the Sado estuary that allow for the informed decision.
This project aims to find a solution to address the available information gap, through the creation of an integrated management model as an aid to the regional governance of the Sado estuary. The project includes four main activities, 1) collect and prepare georeferenced information on the Sado Estuary, 2) update water and sediment quality data, 3) update data on the diversity of biological communities, and 4) based on this set of information, create tools for an integrated management model. This information will be incorporated into a Geoportal, integrating and making the Sado Estuary data available to the public.
The project is aligned with regional and national strategies for smart specialization, promoting greater stakeholder engagement and improved governance. With this project, IPS becomes an essential partner in the national coastal and marine resources management regarding the Sado estuary.
