Nelson Carriço

Nelson Carriço holds 5-year graduation in water resources engineering, an MSc. degree in hydraulics and water resources, and a PhD. in civil engineering. He worked for 5 years as a consultant and designer in urban hydraulic engineering, was a research fellow at Instituto Superior Técnico (IST) for 5 years and was visiting adjunct professor in higher education institutions from 2012-2014 at Instituto Superior Politécnico Autónomo (IPA), and from 2014-2018 at the Civil Engineering Department of the Barreiro School of Technology from the Polytechnic Institute of Setúbal (IPS) and in 2018 he has turned adjunct professor at IPS where he is until nowadays.

In IPS he participates in different institutional activities, such as member of the Technical-Scientific Council and of the General Council.

He has participated in 4 research projects and has coordinated 2 research projects related to the digitalization of urban water and irrigation infrastructures. Has published 15 articles in international journals, 25 national and international conference papers and 3 book chapters. Has also supervised and co-supervised several master's dissertations and currently co-supervises two doctoral students at the IST since IPS as a University of Applied Sciences (or Polytechnic) does not grant doctoral programmes.

Also coordinates the IPS’s R&D Centre for Innovation in Science and Technology (INCITE) where he organizes several scientific events, and write several proposals to national and international R&D funding. His main research interests are in Multicriteria decision analysis (MCDA); Infrastructure asset management (IAM); Hydraulic modelling; Digitalization of urban water systems; Water and Energy Efficiencies and Circular Economy.
